About Hansell Photography

HI! I am Laura! I love capturing moments. Big moments, little moments, fleeting moments, OMG moments, ANY and ALL moments! I am a mother to a preschooler, who hates to have his picture taken, and a wife of 11 years to my best friend, who is an engineer. We live in the country! The city just was not for us so we live where the little boy can run and play, the husband and tear stuff apart, the views are glorious, the air is clean (even if it does occasionally smell of eu de pig... or cow) and the drive to town is relaxing. I use all natural light and shoot on location in the the greater IOWA region. After all this great state is not that big... From the south west corner to the north central areas of Iowa although I have been known to travel east on occasion. Together we can decide where best to capture your moments. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have or to schedule your session. Looking forward to hearing from you!!

Sweet Baby J

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing this sweet little boy. He was so tiny. So very tiny. My experience is that the littlest ones like to sleep the most for me… Not little baby J! He wanted to eat the entire time! I'm sure he won't be tiny long!

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

One blistering Saturday in July I drove down to Elk Horn Iowa and took photos of this beautiful young lady. I just love Alexis to death. My whole family does really. I just can't believe she is old enough to be a high school senior!

Best of luck Alexis!! Thank you for having fun with me!

Thurman Fireworks 2011

Tuesday, August 9th, 2011

This year for the fourth of July celebrations we were down at my parents neck of the woods. Thurman always puts on a really good fireworks show. I think everyone in the country has heard about the flooding that is currently happening in the southwest corner of Iowa. Thurman is in that little corner. These fireworks were shot off at the old Thurman School Gym yard. Before it got dark you could look out and see water in the fields to the west of the school. I know I should have gotten the photo of it but was busy with family and friends. We are all hoping that the water doesn’t get into Thurman. It really is sad enough losing Bartlett, McPaul, Percival and all the land and homesteads in between.

With that being said here are my favorites of the night.

I LOVE the above photo. It is a photo of one of the loud boom fireworks usually used to announce when they are getting ready to start. You know like the five minute cannon…

The finale filled the sky right above us.

I was using a Nikon D7000 with the 18-55mm kit lense at 18mm f22 set on bulb. I had not planned on being in that area for the 4th. Truthfully I had planned on being home way before then. Therefore I didn’t have my tripod so I am extremely pleased with how these turned out. Next year I hope to have my tripod and a chair away from my little boy who was rather persistent in shaking my chair… Gotta love him though!
